Napa Resident Evelyn Fielden
and Witness to the Nazi Holocaust
Born in Berlin in 1921 to assimilated Jewish parents and baptized in the Lutheran Church, Ms Fielden grew up not knowing that she was a Jew. Her father was a wealthy textile manufacturer.
When Hitler came to power, she wished to join the youth organization for girls but was unable to register for the Hitler Youth because of her Jewish background. Because of her desire to join Hitler, she discovered that she was born Jewish.
In 1939, Ms Fielden escaped to England but did not receive a visa to the US until 1944 as a war refugee. Eight family members were murdered, or died in transport.

In this evening of sacred Hebrew chant, Rabbi Ethan Franzel and the dynamic Beit Ayin Band, playing drum, guitar and keyboard, evoke mesmerizing harmonies that powerfully connect us with the Divine as our deeper selves.
Hebrew chanting is a form of meditation and ecstatic prayer in which we repeat sacred phrases to open our hearts and minds.Cantor Bella Bogart begins the evening with a beautiful Havdallah ceremony.
Rabbi Ethan Franzel serves Main Line Reform Temple Beth Elohim in Wynnewood, PA. He received rabbinic ordination at Hebrew Union College, New York in 2001, where he studied Hasidism and Kabbalah. Rabbi Franzel has created a variety of alternative worship experiences, utilizing meditative and contemplative techniques. A long-time practitioner of meditation and chant, he teaches courses on Kabbalah, Hasidism, Jewish spirituality, and meditation. An avid musician, many of the musical settings he uses for his meditation workshops are his own compositions.
“Rabbi Ethan Franzel is blessed with an uncommon religious depth and vision. Through his music, his stories, and, above all, his soft charisma, he is one of the leaders of a new generation of spiritual teachers.”
